BURN X

BURN X is the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary, action-packed firefighting movie BURN. 13 years in the making, BURN X explores stories and introduces characters you've never seen before...and continues the journey for many of the Detroit firefighters from the first film.

But BURN X is more than just a sequel. It dives deeper into themes and answers questions left open from the first film. Why is Detroit still burning? What happens once a firefighter retires? How do they fight fires with less and less support? And what does the future hold if they become catastrophically injured on the job?

From 2009 to 2020, the BURN team filmed thousands of hours of footage as the Detroit Fire Department, its members, and the city they serve went through tremendous highs and lows...from the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history, to the department's first new class of firefighters in years, and then diving headlong into America's grueling COVID pandemic.

“I WISH MY HEAD COULD FORGET WHAT MY EYES HAVE SEEN…”

BURN

In November 2008, Detroit firefighter Walter Harris died battling an arson fire in an abandoned home.

When we heard the story, we asked what seemed like an obvious question: Why, in a city overrun by arson and 80,000 abandoned structures, would anyone risk his life to save an abandoned building? For two documentary filmmakers with no connection to the fire service, it was a question we couldn’t let go.

With tremendous grassroots support, we made more than a movie with BURN — we made the first documentary that took audiences closer than they’d ever been, into the fire and real lives of the busiest firefighters in America. Millions of first responders, civilians and legislators saw BURN in theaters, at home and in firehouses all over the world. Audience response was tremendous — BURN became one of the most successful independent films of all time. It was the #1 documentary and independent film on iTunes for its digital release, and maintains a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Most importantly, we were able to donated more than $310,000 worth of much-needed equipment to Detroit firefighters.
